Celebrate Cinco de Mayo Responsibly

At about 4:11pm Wednesday, Turlock Police announced encouraging the public to celebrate Cinco de Mayo responsibly by planning ahead and designating a sober driver.

On Cinco de Mayo, additional officers will be on patrol during the evening hours, looking for drivers suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

“Don’t put yourself and others on the road at risk by driving impaired,” said Sergeant Watson. “If you’re planning to celebrate with a drink or two, leave your keys at home and designate a sober driver.”

Turlock Police also want to remind the community that alcohol isn’t the only substance that can cause impairment. Marijuana, over-the-counter medications, and prescription medications can also cause impairment. Do your research and understand how certain drugs may affect your driving ability.

Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
