Child airlifted after collision on freeway early Thursday morning

On Thursday, October 29th, 2020, shortly before 12:40 am, the California Highway Patrol received a call of an injury vehicle collision southbound State Route 99 just north of Lander Ave. The California Highway Patrol responded as well as American Medical Response and the Turlock Fire Department with Battalion 4, Engine 31, Squad 32, Engine 34, and Fire 12.

Engine 31 arrived on scene shortly before 12:50 am, southbound State Route 99 just south of W Main St. Captain 31 reported one vehicle into a building. Captain 31 assumed command and put Engine 31 in the investigation mode. Other units also began arriving on scene a short time later. Two patients were already in the back of the ambulance upon the fire department’s arrival with minor injuries, however, a third patient was located. The patient was a young juvenile.

As a safety precaution, an air ambulance was requested to respond. CALSTAR was dispatched. Engine 34 had to leave to respond to another unrelated emergency medical call in district 1. Squad 32 and Fire 12 responded to the Turlock Airpark to setup a landing zone for the air ambulance. With the assistance of Captain 32, CALSTAR safely touched down shortly before 1:20 am. The juvenile patient was ground transported to the landing zone by American Medical Response where he was loaded on the air ambulance and safely took off at approximately 1:30 am.

There was no major damage done to the building. The status of all three individuals involved is unknown. Fire and medical units cleared at approximately 1:30 am. The California Highway Patrol remained on scene until their investigation was complete and the vehicle was towed away from the scene.
