On Friday, at about 3:30pm, just after school was let out a fifth grade child was struck by a car as he attempted Jay-walk across the street.
The Student was sitting upright on arrival of the First Responders, but was Medi-flighted to Valley Children’s for precautionary standards.
Turlock Unified School District released this statement:
“You may have heard about an accident near Osborn Two-Way Immersion Academy this afternoon. A fifth grade Osborn student was hit by a car as he crossed Soderquist Road. Emergency personnel arrived quickly and transported the student to the hospital. At this time we do not have any further information. Principal Ed Ewing will send a letter home on Monday with an update. We will keep this student and his family in our thoughts and hearts this weekend.”
Bonnie Freitas who worked for TUSD states “Parents cross with there kids and don’t use the cross walks, so what are they teaching their kids, so sad, prayers to that child. They see their parents do it, so they do it”
“Local Resident Mary Jane Cullum says “I have driven by Osborn when school gets out . There are parents and kids everywhere. Some not using crosswalks. Very dangerous. Prayers for the child.”

Turlock City News wants to remind Parents to make sure and always use Crosswalks and teach children to do so as well. We also want to encourage Drivers to take extra Precautions around school zones, note that children can run from out of blind spots and parked cars. Reduce speed to 25mph.
