CHP investigates two fatal collisions two hours apart Friday night

On Friday, September 3rd, 2022, at 11:37 pm, the California Highway Patrol, Keyes Fire Protection District, and American Medical Response were dispatched to a reported vehicle collision with injuries in the 3100 block of N Washington Rd, Turlock.

When crews arrived on scene, they found a single vehicle involved, a Honda. Its driver was found underneath it.

The vehicle had two occupants, its driver, a 51-year old man of Stockton whose identity has not yet been released, and his passenger, Victor Bedoy, 22, of Stockton. The vehicle’s driver suffered major injuries which he succumbed to at the scene, while Bedoy did not suffer any injuries.

The vehicle sustained major damage and was deemed inoperable as a result of the collision, requiring it to be towed away.

Officers began investigating and determined that the vehicle was traveling westbound on W Monte Vista Ave approaching N Washington Rd at about sixty miles per hour. As the vehicle approached the intersection, it failed to stop for the stop sign and continued in a westerly direction onto a private dirt road. A few seconds later, the front left side of the vehicle collided with a power pole. The vehicle’s driver was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle, thrown in its path, and run over by it. The vehicle came to final rest a short time later.

Officers believe that alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in the collision.

The investigation remains on-going. Anyone with information that could assist in the investigation is encouraged to call Officer Aaron Fay at 209-545-7440.

Less than two hours later, at 1:12 am, the California Highway Patrol, Keyes Fire Protection District, and American Medical Response were dispatched to another reported vehicle collision with injuries, this one in the 5700 block of E Keyes Rd.

When crews arrived on scene, they found two vehicles involved. One was a Mazda sedan and the other was a Chevrolet pickup truck.

Both vehicles only had a single occupant, their drivers. The identity of the driver of the Mazda sedan has not yet been released, however, the Chevrolet pickup truck was being driven by Richard John Agresti, 31, of Ceres.

The driver of the Mazda sedan suffered major injuries which he succumbed to at the scene, while the driver of the Chevrolet pickup truck suffered major injuries and was ground transported by American Medical Response to a local hospital.

Both vehicles sustained major damage and were deemed inoperable as a result of the collision, requiring them to be towed away.

Officers began investigating and determined that the Mazda sedan was traveling eastbound on E Keyes Rd from Pioneer Rd, while the Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling westbound on E Keyes Rd from Mountain View Rd. As the two vehicles met in the 5700 block of E Keyes Rd, for an unknown reason, the Mazda sedan veered to the left into the westbound lane and collided head-on with the Chevrolet pickup truck. The Mazda sedan’s driver was ejected from his vehicle and landed in the roadway. The Mazda sedan came to final rest on its wheels on the south shoulder of the roadway facing northwest, while the Chevrolet pickup truck came to final rest on its wheels in an orchard facing southwest.

It’s currently unclear whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision.

The investigation remains on-going. Anyone with information that could assist in the investigation is encouraged to call Officer Matthew Pender at 209-534-7440.
