Two passersby attempted to extinguish a fire in a detached storage shed on Friday, taking immediate action to stop the spreading flames before the Turlock Fire Department arrived.
At approximately 12:20 p.m. on Friday, TFD received a call from two men who saw the the shed, located at 1400 N. Tully Rd., on fire as they drove by. After calling 911, the two men immediately tried to extinguish the fire with a garden hose.
Upon arrival, TFD fire crews forced entry into the shed and extinguished the growing fire. Although the fire was contained to the shed with no extension to the nearby residence, the shed's interior suffered moderate-to-heavy damage. According to TFD, the estimated total dollar loss is $10,500.
The fire is believed to have started in an interior corner of the shed, however the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
According to the occupant of the nearby residence, no one was injured or displaced due to the incident. In addition, crews were able to isolate utilities to the shed and reinstate power to the main residence.
TFD responded with 13 personnel, including the Fire Chief, a division chief, a battalion chief and three engine companies. The Turlock Police Department, and Pacific Gas and Electric also responded.
