Your tax dollars are hard at play with the City of Turlock Recreation Division offering a host of classes and activities for youth and adults this fall.

Unlike many surrounding cities of relative size, Turlock still offers an impressive variety of recreational options for its residents. Here is a rundown of all the sports and classes, beginning with youth sports.

Youth Sports

Sticks for Golf, ages 5-10, $35. Classes run every Monday from Sept. 23- Oct. 14.

Turlock High Open Basketball Gym, ages 12-18, $30, MWF, 6-7p.m from Aug. 26- Sept. 25

Youth Basketball Registration begins Nov. 1 and last until Dec. 20. The season begins Jan. 4, 2014. Available ages range from K-8 grade. $68.

Kidz Love Soccer. Ages range from Parent & Me (2-3y/o) to 7-10 y/o. Times and locations vary by age and registration costs between $99 and $109 depending on age. Registration begins Aug. 22 at 8.am. Practices begin Sept. 21. All games will be held at Christoffersen Park.

Youth Classes

Dance/Ballet/Tap. The city offers a wide range of opportunities for ages ranging from toddlers (2 y/o) to 18 y/o. Cost for classes range from $52 to $100 depending on age. Times vary by age but toddler classes are available in the a.m. hours. Classes begin Aug. 26-29. All classes will be held at Steps Dance Arts Center. Registration is currently open.

Self defense classes are equally as popular as dance. A variety of classes are available to youth ages 5-15 with registration ranging from $54 to $83. Classes are held in the evenings at the Senior Center between 5:15 to 8:00 p.m. depending on belt status. Registration is open for classes beginning Aug. 26, followed by another round on Oct. 21.

Hip Hop & Tumbling is available for youth ages 4-10. Registration is $54 and classes begin Sept. 25 and Nov. 20. Classes will be held at Rube Boesch in the evenings. Times vary by age.

Cheermastics classes are available for ages ranging from 3 to 12. Registration is $54 and classes begin Sept. 25 and Nov. 20. Classes will be held at Rube Boesch in the evenings. Times vary by age.

Judo classes for students from 7 to 18 y/o. Registration is $75 and classes begin Sept. 17. Classes will be held at War Memorial in the evenings. Times vary by age.

Babysitting for ages 11-15 begins Oct. 12. Registration is $26. The class will be held at the War Memorial Club Room 2 on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. (This is a one-day class)

Adults

Tai Chi is open to anyone 18 years old and up. Classes are held from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at War Memorial. The cost is $46 and classes start on Sept. 4, Oct. 2, Nov. 6 and Dec. 4.

Yoga classes are open to anyone 16 years old and up. Classes are held from 9 to 9:40 a.m. at Rube Boesch. The fee is $89 and classes begin Sept. 4 and Oct. 30.

Fall Volleyball Leagues (Co-ed) for both recreation and competition are available. Sign-ups are through Aug. 29 and the season starts Sept. 16 (Late registration is available for an extra fee). The cost is $97 per team and $8 per player. Games will be held in the evenings at either Turlock Junior High or Pitman High School.
