Convicted felon arrested after attempting robbery with stun gun Wednesday night

On Wednesday, February 1st, 2023, at 9:11 pm, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported weapon offense that had just occurred at the We Care Program, 219 S Broadway, Turlock, after a man had brandished what was believed to be a handgun.

When officers arrived on scene, they found a man later identified as Sherman Wallace, 65, of Turlock, standing outside of the business. Wallace matched the suspect description given by the caller and was held at gunpoint until the additional officers could arrive and assist with safely detaining him in handcuffs.

Officers began investigating and discovered that Wallace was in possession of a stun gun, which was what had initially been mistaken for a handgun. Officers also discovered that when Wallace had brandished the stun gun, he had done it in an attempt to commit a robbery.

Wallace was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of attempted robbery and possession of a stun gun by a person convicted of a felony or an assault.
