California State University Stanislaus Provost James T. Strong recently announced the four recipients of Outstanding Professor Awards for the 2012-13 academic year.

The recipients were as follows:

Outstanding Professor: Dr. Andy Young
As a Professor of Philosophy, Young has made meaningful impacts on CSU Stanislaus students through a wide-range of courses including Philosophy 1010 (Introduction to Philosophy), Philosophy 4050 (Environmental Ethics) and Philosophy 4450 (Eastern Philosophy).

With high ratings and beaming letters from current and former students, Young’s excellence in teaching continues to inspire students to think critically and to explore new concepts. Well respected by his colleagues, Young has been commended for many years for his excellence as a teacher and a scholar, with a high level of dedication to both the university and his community.

Outstanding Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity Professor: Dr. Arnold Schmidt
As a Professor of English, Schmidt has proven to be an excellent scholar and teacher, and has gained a valuable reputation as an international scholar on 19th century British Literature.

Having numerous publications and academic achievements, Schmidt incorporates his own scholarly work into his teaching at the university. Being highly respected and admired by his colleagues, Schmidt is committed to scholarship as his foundation for teaching.

Outstanding Community Service Professor: Ms. Jessica Gomula-Kruzic
Associate Professor of Art Gomula-Kruzic demonstrates a high level of enthusiasm and dedication to the students at CSU Stanislaus, as well as the local community.

She has not only pursued, but has also received numerous substantial grants during her time at the university.

With efforts such as creating the Building Imagination Center – an art video center funded by a national competitive grant – Professor Gomula-Kruzic has created an outlet for free events to help celebrate art and architecture in Modesto and surrounding areas. She is also currently working on a documentary that highlights nationally significant architecture in Modesto, while also celebrating local history.

Elizabeth Anne B. Papageorge Faculty Development Award: Peggy Hauselt
Assistant Professor of Geography Hauselt has taught students at CSU Stanislaus with her hands-on approach, providing students with the unique opportunity to apply geographical concepts to various real-world scenarios.

Hauselt has used her passion for pedagogical growth, teaching and current technology by integrating them into her innovative courses at the University. Hauselt has also sought and received multiple grants for the Geography program at CSUS.

Hauselt is well respected amongst her colleagues at the university, receiving numerous nomination letters from her colleagues for this award. Students, both former and current, of Hauselt also wrote letters of nomination, saying that she continually encouraged them to engage in research, as well as praises for her ability to incorporate real-world experiences into the Geography program.

Hauselt has also connected numerous students to local internship opportunities, and has organized GIS Day at the campus.
