For the fourth consecutive year, the Princeton Review has named California State University, Stanislaus one of the most environmentally responsible colleges in the United States and Canada.
First published in 2009, the “Princeton Review’s Guide to 322 Green Colleges” has featured CSU Stanislaus in all four annual editions of the guide. As one of the nation’s most well-known education services companies, the Princeton Review publishes the free report on green colleges in collaboration with the Center for Green Schools and the U.S. Green Building Council.
Each year, the “Princeton Review’s Guide to 322 Green Colleges” provides information on the top environmentally friendly schools, including profiles on each college’s application guidelines, admission, financial aid, and sustainability initiatives.
The guide also features green facts which demonstrate each school’s use of renewable energy sources, recycling and conservation programs, environmental studies information, and career guidance information for environment-based jobs.
CSU Stanislaus was named one of the top 322 colleges of the 806 campuses rated by the Princeton Review. The university was recognized for its “Green Campus Program” for student sustainability initiatives, the Naraghi Hall of Science’s LEED Silver rating, photovoltaic solar panels and other energy-efficient renovations that were made to the Science 1 Building.
The Senior Vice President and Publisher of the Princeton Review, Robert Franek, said that with the increasing number of students interested in environmental responsibility and sustainability, many students consider a campus’ efforts in going green when picking a college to attend.
“Among 9,955 college applicants who participated in our 2013 ‘College Hopes & Worries Survey,’ 62 percent said having information about a school’s commitment to the environment would influence their decision to apply to or attend the school,” said Franek. “We recommend these schools to all students seeking colleges that practice and promote environmentally responsible choices.”
The university was also recognized for the career center’s guidance on green jobs, and research opportunities that have been made available through a new master’s program in ecology and sustainability offered at CSU Stanislaus.
