The California State University, Stanislaus Extended Education program will offer Summer Reading Skills courses for children as young as 4 to up to those entering the 10th grade.

Individualized programs include support from a professional reading teacher, materials, independent reading, books and engaging online instruction.

Students will learn phonics, comprehension, fluency, study skills, speed reading and ultimately the love of reading.

The program includes five weeks of classroom instruction and stimulating activities along with homework and reading.

The maximum class size is eighteen students. The class size allows for children to receive personal attention from the teacher, while also participating in lively group discussions and activities.

Tuition in the program costs $299, plus a materials fee of $36. There is a $30 discount for enrolling more than one student. A limited number of scholarships are available to students with demonstrated financial need.

Classes are offered in Turlock, Modesto and Merced.

Interested parents are encouraged to register quickly as classes often fill within weeks. Dates and times are available by calling 1-800-470-3698. For more information visit http://www.extendeded.com/reading.html.
