Each year, seniors in the California State University, Stanislaus Communications Department must complete a senior capstone project to graduate.
This year, four students have joined together to put on a fashion show fundraiser to benefit the American Cancer Society.
“We all decided that we wanted to put on a fashion show because we’re all really into fashion, and realized that there not many events that allow people within our community to find multiple fashion vendors in one location,” said Michelle Oliver, a senior majoring in Communication Studies at CSU Stanislaus.
The capstone class requires students develop a semester-long project to demonstrate what they have learned prior to graduating. In the past, Turlock's Paws for a Cause 5k dog walk and many other events were planned by Communcations capstone students.
“We’re not required to benefit an organization, however, the American Cancer Society is an organization we all hold dear to our hearts, so we wanted to incorporate that into our project as well,” said Oliver.
The fashion show will feature various local restaurants, clothing and accessory vendors, giving attendees the opportunity to shop from vendors all over the region in one convenient location.
“We’re going to also feature tons of raffle prizes, which include various items and gift certificates to cool local restaurants and clothing stores,” said Oliver.
The Lights, Camera, Fashion event will be held at the Main Dining building at CSU Stanislaus from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. April 18. The fashion show will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Admission is $5, which includes one complementary raffle ticket. Additional raffle tickets can be purchased for $1 each.
“Come on out, it will be a fun time,” said Oliver. “We’d love to have everyone come and enjoy it with us.”
