Dangerous driver call leads to arrest of felon with assault rifle Friday night

On Friday, November 11th, 2022, at 8:26 pm, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported dangerous driver at the intersection of N Palm St and E Olive Ave, Turlock.

Officers arrived in the area and began checking, however, were unable to locate the vehicle.

A few minutes later, a Turlock Fire Battalion Chief who was monitoring police radio traffic as well spotted the same vehicle still driving in a dangerous manner near the intersection of N Olive Ave and Wayside Dr. The battalion chief began following the vehicle and providing location updates to his dispatcher which was relayed to responding officers.

Eventually, the vehicle stopped near the intersection of Primrose Ln and Oleander Ln and officers arrived shortly after.

Officers made contact with the vehicle’s driver, later identified as Enrique Jimenez, 34, of Stevinson, and noticed that he was exhibiting signs of being under the influence.

Ultimately, based on the totality of the circumstances, officers determined that Jimenez was under the influence of alcohol.

Jimenez was arrested and a search of his vehicle was conducted incident to arrest. The search led to the discovery of an AR-15 rifle. Jimenez is a convicted felon and is thus prohibited from possessing any firearms, let alone an assault rifle.

Jimenez was transported to a local hospital and provided an evidentiary blood sample as required by California’s implied consent law.

Afterwards, Jimenez was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon or person addicted to a narcotic, carrying a loaded firearm, possession of an assault weapon, driving under the influence of alcohol, and driving with a blood alcohol content of .08 or greater. He was also issued an administrative driver’s license suspension order by the California Department of Motor Vehicles and his vehicle was impounded.
