Daylight Saving Time Begins Tonight

TurlockCityNews.com wants to remind its readers to “spring forward” tonight, as daylight saving time begins at 2 a.m.

This means that tonight before bed, you will want to set forward your manually adjusted clocks one hour, unless you are planning on being up at around 2 a.m.

Most software now automatically updates if it is set to the correct standard time for your area, here Pacific Standard Time, but it may be a good idea to check so that you’re not running an hour late all day on Sunday.

The practice of DST was created to preserve more daylight hours in the evening during the summer months.

According to a recent article on NationalGeographic.com, the federal government doesn't require U.S. states to observe DST, which is why residents of Arizona (except for residents of the Navajo Indian Reservation) will not be changing their clocks tonight.

Although the practice is somewhat controversial or, at least for some, bothersome, it was created in the late 1800s to help preserve energy – that is, electricity. Some countries practice DST year-round while others, including Russia and Japan, do not at all.

DST will end Nov. 2 when clocks will be set back one hour.
