Denham Visits MJC to Interact With Student Veterans, Disburse Benefits Guide

U.S. Representative Jeff Denham (R-Turlock) distributed more than 30 copies of Military.com’s comprehensive guide for veterans to students at Modesto Junior College’s (MJC) Veterans Resource Center yesterday.

“These guides will be a resource for student veterans at MJC as they navigate the benefits application processes,” said Denham. “Applying for educational benefits, healthcare, and home loans can be difficult – these books break down the VA’s legalese to make the process easier. These student veterans have enough on their plates as is.”

The guide, “The Military Advantage,” is published annually by Military.com and reviews educational benefits, healthcare priorities, home loan guarantees, and military discounts for veterans in language that is easy to understand.

“Over the last eight years we have partnered with organizations nationwide to give out over 20,000 copies of our book ‘The Military Advantage,’” said Terry Howell, Military.com editor and the book’s author. “The book was written to provide servicemembers, veterans and their families with a comprehensive, easy-to-read desktop reference to help them take advantage of their hard-earned benefits and support resources.”

In his political work, Denham often makes efforts to address the state of Veterans Affairs and the livelihood of veterans in the U.S. His visit yesterday was a way of reaching out to some young veterans in his constituency.

MJC’s Veterans Resource Center serves approximately 800 veterans who are MJC students. The center serves as the liaison between the veteran and the Department of Veterans Affairs and provides career planning, financial aid, and other student services. It also functions as a space for them to interact with their fellow student veterans and many members of the center's staff are themselves veterans.
