A Turlock detached garaged was destroyed after catching fire Sunday morning.
Though the fire progressed rapidly, no one was injured.
At approximately 9:30 a.m., the Turlock Fire Department responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a garage fire at 315 S. Broadway Ave.. TFD responded with Battalion Chief Bill Becker, who acted as the Officer in Charge, and four engine companies, for a total of 13 personnel.
According to TFD, firefighters were able to control the fire within eight minutes of arrival. The firefighters conducted a defensive attack on the fire, achieving a quick knockdown.
Multiple power lines were within the vicinity of the fire, making access both difficult and dangerous. Even in these circumstances, crews were able to contain the fire in the detached garage and protect four nearby buildings, including P&F Metals shop.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, though TFD believes it originated within the garage. The garage was completely destroyed, resulting in an estimated loss of $18,000. Firefighters were able to remove multiple personal items, including papers and pictures, from the building before it completely burned down.
Crews remained on scene for nearly 5 hours, including controlling the fire, clean-up, and investigation.
Turlock Rural Fire Department assisted with city coverage during the fire and helped respond to a dumpster fire on E. Main St. during the incident. Ceres Fire Battalion 10 and Engine 1 also assisted with city coverage during the fire.
Turlock Police Department, PG&E and Turlock Irrigation District also assisted TFD during the incident.
