Details on Accident that Overturned Vehicle, Blocked Lanes at Hawkeye and Colorado

A two vehicle collision near Dutcher Middle School forced one vehicle to overturn and sent at least one to a local hospital on Thursday afternoon.

About 3:00 p.m, a Dodge Grand Caravan was traveling westbound on Hawkeye Avenue when it collided with a Toyota Highlander at the intersection of Hawkeye Avenue and Colorado Avenue.

The Highlander was attempting to make a left-hand turn onto northbound Colorado Avenue when it was hit on the passenger side. The force of the collision sent the Highlander spinning, eventually flipping it on its back.

Witnesses said that the Highlander failed to properly yield while making the left turn and was unable to make it through the intersection before being hit.

Turlock Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Victor Barcelos confirmed that the Highlander failed to properly yield.

It is unknown at this time if either driver was speeding, but the accident took place in a school zone where the speed limit drops from 40 to 25 MPH.

Dutcher Middle School’s final bell rings at 2:50 p.m, with the accident occurring about 3:00 p.m. No students were injured in the accident.

A passenger of the Highlander was released from the scene complaining of pain, said Barcelos, and went to the hospital.
