Doggy Walk Explodes with Cuteness

The dog days of August aren’t enough to keep some good dogs down.

Thursday night a group of about 50 carefree canines and their loyal companions gathered at Crane Park for the Monte Vista Small Animal Hospital Scoop’it & Loop’it Ice Cream Social Doggy Walk.

It was a festival of friendship and shared interest, for both the dogs and the humans. Since last summer the Ice Cream Social Doggy Walk has provided hundreds of people and dogs with simply the best of life; shade, cool grass, a walking path, comradery, unbelievably cute dogs, delicious Cold Stone Creamery ice cream and hot slices of pizza.

“This is a great way for the community and dog lovers to get together, socialize and get some exercise,” said Monte Vista Hospital Director Sara Leimgruber.

The event has become so popular that even people from neighboring cities will trek to Turlock. Delphia Sights of Modesto brings her one-year old chow, Koda.

“I enjoy coming out and seeing all the other dogs and its fun for Koda to socialize,” she said. “It’s very dog friendly in Turlock, people keep their dogs on leashes and they actually pick up their dog’s poop.”

And of course there is the free Cold Stone ice cream. Elodia Womack and her three-year-old Doberman, Diamond visited the Doggy Walk for the second time and munched down on a cool scoop.

For some, the doggy walks are a generational event. Owner Elizabeth Ingersoll brought her four-and-a-half-year-old boxer, Bella, and her puppy, Rigby, for some irresistible doggy wrestling and play.
