Drunk driver arrested after attempting to hide from officers early Saturday morning

On Saturday, June 11th, 2022, at 12:16 am, a Turlock Police officer near the intersection of E Linwood Ave and Lander Ave, Turlock, spotted a vehicle driving eastbound at a high rate of speed, so he attempted to make a traffic stop on it.

The vehicle made a northbound turn onto Boxwood Way and stopped in the 1000 block, while the officer was still on E Linwood Ave trying to catch up. Once stopped, the driver, later identified as Luis Sanchez, 36, of Turlock, exited his vehicle and attempted to hide from officers in the front yard of a residence.

The original officer and additional officers arrived at where Sanchez had come to a stop a few seconds after he hid himself and eventually found his hiding spot. Officers immediately determined that Sanchez was under the influence of alcohol, so he was arrested.

Sanchez was also determined to be in possession of narcotics, had a suspended driver’s license, and was on probation

Sanchez was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a blood alcohol content of .08 or greater, possession of a controlled substance, driving with a suspended driver’s license due to a DUI conviction, and violation of probation. He was also issued an administrative driver’s license suspension order from the California Department of Motor Vehicles and his vehicle was impounded.
