Drunk driver arrested after crashing into fire hydrant and fleeing Sunday night

On Sunday, November 13th, 2022, at 10:08 pm, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported hit and run that had just occurred at Tesoro Fine Mexican Restaurant, 1687 Lander Ave, Turlock.

When crews arrived on scene, they found a knocked-down fire hydrant that had been struck by a vehicle that was no longer there.

Officers were able to locate the involved vehicle, a black Jeep pickup truck, unoccupied and parked behind Arco AMPM, 1801 Lander Ave.

Officers were also able to locate the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Balraj Singh, 25, of Turlock, in front of Khadim Jewelers, 1647 Lander Ave. Singh did not suffer any injuries.

While speaking with Singh, officers noticed that he was exhibiting symptoms of being under the influence.

Based on the totality of the circumstances, officers determined that Singh was under the influence of alcohol.

It’s currently unknown how the collision occurred.

Singh was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and hit and run causing property damage. He was also issued an administrative driver’s license suspension order by the California Department of Motor Vehicles and his vehicle was impounded.
