On Tuesday, April 18th, 2023, at 10:54 pm, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported vehicle collision in the 600 block of S Orange St, Turlock, with the responsible driver attempting to flee the scene.

When officers arrived on scene, they found two vehicles involved. The first was a blue 2009 Pontiac Vibe and the second was an orange 2016 Dodge Challenger.

The blue Pontiac had a single occupant, driver Blas Alcaraz, 42, of Turlock, who was uninjured, while the orange Challenger had been lawfully parked on the side of the road and was unoccupied.

Alcaraz displayed objective symptoms of being under the influence of alcohol, so he was asked if he was willing to participate in standardized field sobriety tests. He refused.

Based on the totality of the circumstances, officers determined that Alcaraz was under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested.

During a search incident to arrest, officers located narcotics in Alcaraz’s possession.

Alcaraz refused to provide a chemical sample as required by California’s implied consent law, so he was transported to a local hospital for a forceful blood draw after a search warrant was obtained. Afterward, he was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a blood alcohol content of .08% or greater, possession of methamphetamines, and possession of a controlled substance. Additionally, Alcaraz was issued an administrative driver’s license suspension order by the California Department of Motor Vehicles and his vehicle was impounded.

Both vehicles sustained moderate damage.

It’s currently unknown how the collision occurred.
