Drunk driver arrested after crashing into parked vehicle Sunday night

David Fransen|

On Sunday, August 14th, 2022, at 8:25 pm, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported vehicle collision with unknown details in front of a residence in the 1200 block of Pecan Way, Turlock.

When officers arrived on scene, they originally only found one vehicle involved, a gray Acura SUV, however, a minute later located the second involved vehicle, a gray GMC SUV, around the corner in front of its registered address.

The gray Acura SUV was unoccupied and legally parked on the side of the road at the time of the collision, while the gray GMC SUV had a single occupant at the time of the collision, Manuel Aguilar, 38, of Turlock, who did not suffer any injuries.

Both vehicles sustained minor damage. The gray Acura SUV was left parked where it was while the gray GMC SUV was impounded after its driver was arrested.

While speaking with Aguilar, officers noticed that he was exhibiting objective symptoms of being under the influence, so they asked him if he would be willing to participate in standardized field sobriety tests. Aguilar agreed and completed the tests.

Ultimately, based on the objective symptoms Aguilar was exhibiting, his performance in the standardized field sobriety tests, the fact that there was an open alcohol container in his vehicle, the fact that he had just been involved in a collision, and the totality of the circumstances, officers determined that he was under the influence of alcohol.

Aguilar was arrested and transported to a local hospital for a blood draw as required by California’s implied consent law.

Afterwards, Aguilar was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a blood alcohol content of .08 or greater. He was also issued an administrative driver’s license suspension order by the California Department of Motor Vehicles and his vehicle was impounded.

It’s currently unknown how the collision occurred.
