At about 10:23pm Monday, Turlock Police responded to a trespass in progress at Applebee’s in the 2500 block of Fulkerth Road.

The caller reported that a man was sitting in a booth ordering food, saying he couldn’t pay for it. He was also trying to go into the kitchen with his small dog, mumbling to himself.

Before officers arrived, the man left speeding in his vehicle through the shopping center with his lights off. He also hadn’t paid for his tab, however, the business didn’t want anything done about it.

Officer Hood arrived on scene a few minutes later and located the vehicle near FoodMaxx, still in the parking lot.

Hood made contact with and identified the vehicle’s driver as Andrew Wylie, 31, of Turlock.

Wylie displayed objective symptoms of being under the influence, so he was asked by Officer Nwando if he’d be willing to participate in standardized field sobriety tests. Wylie agreed to participate in one test, however, was unable to participate in the others due to his disabilities.

Based on the totality of the circumstances, Nwando determined that Wylie was under the influence of alcohol and arrested him.

Wylie was issued a driver’s license suspension order and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a blood alcohol content of .08% or greater.

Additionally, Wylie’s vehicle was impounded and his dog was taken to the Turlock Animal Shelter.

It’s worth noting that the prior day, police had responded to several calls where Wylie had been driving around recklessly, stopping people, and threatening to rob them if they didn’t empty their pockets. He was eventually contacted at his apartment complex a short time later and came out of his vehicle with a baseball bat. He was also drunk at the time and arrested for disorderly conduct.
