At about 11:01pm Monday, Turlock Police responded to a hit-and-run that had just occurred in the 1000 block of South Avenue.

The caller reported a white Lincoln Navigator had just struck her parked black Honda Civic and fled the scene, leaving their license plate behind.

As Sergeant Hernandez was in the area of West Avenue S. and Montana Avenue, he located and stopped the white Navigator as it was making its way back to its address on Expedition Street.

Hernandez and another officer made contact with and identified the vehicle’s two occupants, including driver Santiago Juarez, 58, of Turlock.

While speaking with Juarez, officers noticed that he was displaying objective symptoms of being under the influence, so they removed him from his vehicle and asked him if he’d be willing to participate in standardized field sobriety tests.

Juarez poorly participated in one of the tests, however, was unable to participate in the other two due to leg problems.

Based on the totality of the circumstances, officers determined that Juarez was under the influence of alcohol and arrested him.

Juarez provided two breath samples at the scene as required by California’s implied consent law.

He was then released on a citation to a sober person on the charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Additionally, Juarez was issued a driver’s license suspension order and his vehicle was impounded.
