On Sunday, September 25th, 2022, at 4:37 pm, the California Highway Patrol, Turlock Fire Department, and American Medical Response were dispatched to a reported vehicle collision with injuries northbound State Route 99 just north of W Linwood Ave, Turlock.

When crews arrived on scene, they found a single vehicle involved, a Chevrolet pickup truck, which was in a dirt field east of the freeway between the overpass and Esperanza Ct.

The vehicle had four occupants, including driver Severo Ramirez, 33, of Stockton, and front passenger Sharayah Sanders, 31, of Stockton. A nine-year old female of Stockton and seven-year old female of Manteca were also seated in the back. Ramirez suffered minor injuries, Sanders suffered major injuries, the nine-year old suffered major injuries, and the seven-year old suffered minor injuries. Ramirez refused to be transported to the hospital, Sanders and the seven-year old were ground transported by American Medical Response to a local hospital, while the nine-year old was air transported by PHI Air Medical Services to a regional children’s hospital.

The vehicle sustained major damage and was deemed inoperable as a result of the collision, requiring it to be towed away.

Officers began investigating, and determined that Ramirez was under the influence of alcohol. Officers determined that Ramirez was traveling northbound on State Route 99 from Lander Ave, when his intoxicated state caused him to lose control of his vehicle near the W Linwood Ave overpass. At that point, his vehicle struck the center median barrier and crossed all lanes of traffic headed in a northeasterly direction. His vehicle then left the edge of the roadway, rolled over, and came to final rest where it was found after colliding with a cyclone fence.

Ramirez was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury and driving with a blood alcohol content of .08 or greater causing injury. He was also issued an administrative driver’s license suspension order by the California Department of Motor Vehicles and his vehicle was impounded.
