At about 8:26pm Tuesday night, Turlock Police and University Police responded to a disturbance at E. Tuolumne Road and Stone Meadow Road.

The caller reported that someone in a white Ford F-150 had been following him for the past ten minutes, attempting to collide with his vehicle, flashing his lights, and running stop signs. The caller also reported that he made several turns in an attempt to get away from the F-150, but that aggravated its driver even more.

University Police Corporal Kent and Officer Moore located the F-150 and stopped it in the 2700 block of N. Quincy Road. The F-150 pulled into the driveway of a residence it didn’t belong at.

The driver of the F-150 was contacted and identified as Troy Vongunten, 30, of Turlock. He displayed objective symptoms of being under the influence.

Turlock officers arrived and took over the investigation. They asked Vongunten if he’d be willing to participate in standardized field sobriety tests and he agreed, but performed poorly on them.

Due to the totality of the circumstances, officers determined that Vongunten was under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested.

Vongunten was then booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on the charge of driving under the influence of alcohol. He was also issued a driver’s license suspension order and his vehicle was impounded.

Officers also took possession of a pump shotgun that was with Vongunten. He was determined to be its registered owner and lawfully in possession of it. It wasn’t used during the road rage incident.
