On Tuesday, January 17th, 2023, at 2:50 pm, the Turlock Police Department, Turlock Fire Department, and American Medical Response were dispatched to a reported vehicle collision with injuries in front of 632 Ninth St, Turlock.

When crews arrived on scene, they found three vehicles involved. The first one was a 2000 Chevrolet S-10, the second one was an unknown vehicle, and the third one was a black 1999 Honda Accord.

The S-10 had a total of three occupants, including its driver, Jason Freitas, 39, of Turlock, and a child. The child suffered minor injuries and was ground-transported by American Medical Response to a local hospital. The other two vehicles were parked and unoccupied.

Officers began speaking with Freitas and noticed that he was exhibiting objective symptoms of being under the influence, so they asked him if he would be willing to complete standardized field sobriety tests. Freitas agreed and did so.

Based on the totality of the circumstance, officers determined that Freitas was under the influence of alcohol.

Freitas was arrested and provided two evidentiary breath samples at the scene as required by California’s implied consent law. The breath samples revealed that Freitas had a blood alcohol content of .08 or greater.

Freitas was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury to another person, driving with a blood alcohol content of .08 or greater causing injury to another person, and child abuse or endangerment under circumstances likely to produce great bodily harm or death. He was also issued an administrative driver’s license suspension order by the California Department of Motor Vehicles and his vehicle was impounded.

It’s currently unknown how the collision occurred.
