Drunk driver arrested on second DUI during the month after nearly colliding with police vehicle early Saturday morning

On Saturday, March 25th, 2023, at 12:50 am, a Turlock Police officer near the intersection of S First St and D St, Turlock, had a man drive his vehicle against traffic and nearly collide with his patrol vehicle, so he made a traffic stop on him.

The officer made contact with and identified the vehicle’s two occupants, driver Isaiah Perez, 32, of Turlock, and passenger Gregorio Ramirez, 37, of Merced.

When the officer had his dispatcher run the two, he discovered that Ramirez had a $25,000 misdemeanor bench warrant out of Merced County for driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a blood alcohol content of .08% or greater, and driving without a valid driver’s license.

Perez displayed objective symptoms of being under the influence, so the officer removed him from his vehicle and asked him to participate in standardized field sobriety tests. Perez agreed and completed the tests.

Based on the totality of the circumstances, the officer determined that Perez was under the influence of alcohol.

Perez was arrested and provided two breath samples at the scene as required by California’s implied consent law.

Afterward, he was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on the charge of driving under the influence of alcohol. He was also issued an administrative driver’s license suspension order by the California Department of Motor Vehicles and his vehicle was impounded.

Ramirez was also arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on his warrant.

It should be noted that this is Perez’s second DUI arrest this month. On Saturday, March 4th, he had been stopped by a different officer and arrested for DUI. The officer from this recent stop assisted the arresting officer during the previous stop and the arresting officer from the previous stop assisted the arresting officer during this recent stop.

During standardized field sobriety tests on the previous stop, Perez had stuck his tongue out during the horizontal gaze nystagmus test and attempted to do a push-up during the walk-and-turn test.
