Drunk driver leads police on pursuit Wednesday night

On Wednesday, February 10th, 2021, at approximately 9:15 pm, a reckless drunk driver nearly collided with a Turlock Police officer as she was on patrol on N Golden State Blvd near W Taylor Rd. The officer attempted to make a traffic stop, however, the driver of the vehicle failed to yield to her and a pursuit ensued.

The driver fled southbound onto State Route 99 and travelled approximately 2 miles while reaching speeds of 75 miles per hour before taking the Fulkerth Rd exit. When he took the exit, he fled westbound on Fulkerth Rd before making a northbound turn onto Auto Mall Dr. The driver drove to the end of Auto Mall Dr before finally stopping in a church parking lot.

Other Turlock Police officers and a Stanislaus State officer who assisted in the pursuit conducted a high risk stop and detained the driver and his female passenger. The driver, who was identified as Henry Duncan, 60, of Stockton, was placed under arrest and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of flight from a peace officer threatening public safety and driving under the influence of alcohol. The passenger, who originally provided officers with a fake name, was identified as Luz Chavez, 35, of Elk Grove, and she was placed under arrest and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on various felony and misdemeanor warrants.
