Drunk driver runs red light, causes vehicle collision

On Friday, August 7th, 2020, at approximately 9:20 pm, the Turlock Police Department received a call reporting an injury vehicle collision at the intersection of Geer Rd and E Monte Vista Ave. The Turlock Police Department responded alongside Stanislaus State Police Department and American Medical Response. The Turlock Fire Department also responded with Battalion 4, Engine 31, and Engine 33.

Within three minutes, multiple police, fire, and medical units were on scene. When Engine 33 arrived, they reported two vehicles involved, both with moderate to major damage, as well as a traffic light on the ground. Captain 33 assumed Monte Vista command and put Engine 33 in the investigation mode. Engine 31 was cancelled by command upon arriving on scene. It is unknown if there were any injuries, however, American Medical Response did not transport anyone. City crews were also called to the scene to take care of the traffic light.

It was overheard that one of the drivers said, “I thought the light was yellow so I went through, but it was red”. That driver showed signs of intoxication, so field sobriety tests were administered. He failed those tests. He also failed a preliminary breath test provided by a Stanislaus State officer. He was placed under arrest for driving under the influence and then transported to Doctors Medical Center for a blood test. He was then subsequently booked into Stanislaus County Public Safety Center.

He has been identified as Dominic Jack, 24, of Turlock. He’s no stranger to getting into trouble while driving, as court records show that he has been cited three separate times in Stanislaus County within the last 7 years. His previous charges include driving without insurance, failing to stop at a stop sign, and violating terms of his provisional license, however, was only convicted of failing to stop at a stop sign.

The roadway was cleared at approximately 10:35 pm. Command was terminated at this time. All units went clear and available.
