At about 11:47am Friday, Turlock Police Officer De La Cruz made a traffic stop near E. Olive Avenue and N. Golden State Boulevard.

The driver of the vehicle had done a burnout in the middle of the busy intersection right in front of De La Cruz.

De La Cruz made contact with and identified the vehicle’s two occupants, including driver Patrick McCarthy, 25, of Turlock.

When De La Cruz had his dispatcher run McCarthy, he discovered he had a suspended driver’s license and a $100,000 felony bench warrant out of Merced County for driving under the influence of alcohol causing bodily injury to another person, driving with a blood alcohol content of .08% or greater, fleeing the scene of an accident resulting in injury or death to another person, driving with a suspended license, and failing to provide evidence of financial responsibility to a peace officer.

McCarthy displayed objective symptoms of being under the influence.

Based on the totality of the circumstances, De La Cruz determined that McCarthy was under the influence of alcohol and arrested him.

McCarthy was issued a driver’s license suspension order and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a blood alcohol content of .08% or greater, and driving with a suspended license, as well as his warrant.
