Michael Eggman, a Democrat challenging U.S. Rep. Jeff Denham (R-Turlock) for his seat in the House of Representatives, visited Latif’s Thursday morning for a meet-and greet with local voters.

Eggman, a Turlock farmer and beekeeper, told those in attendance of how he grew up on his family’s farm, located at the intersection of Tuolumne and Tegner roads.

“It used to be, when I was a kid, we were way out in the country,” Eggman said.

Eggman said his parents worked hard and put away money so that he and his siblings could live the American Dream. They went to college and became successful; Eggman’s sister, Susan Eggman, is a state assemblywoman representing Stockton and Tracy.

But now, for the first time, this generation’s children are expected to do worse in life than their parents. That’s not acceptable to Eggman.

“I want to fight for the parents of this generation, and their children’s future,” Eggman said.

He rattled off a laundry list of reasons why the American Dream has been put on hold, from crime to education and infrastructure.

“The solutions are out there,” Eggman said. “We just need the will to solve them.”

Eggman said he believes he can win in the June 3 primary, and again in the November 4 general election. He hopes to win over democrats, independents, and moderate Republicans alike who are tired of political theatre and want results.

“You know that old saying ‘Reagan Democrats?’” Eggman asked. “We’re creating Eggman Republicans.”
