Emanuel Medical Center will offer a number of classes and support groups this month, helping those suffering from grief or cancer, preparing to be a mother, or in search of some basic healthcare skills.
April 1 to May 13 – Evening Loss of Spouse Support Group
The group meets meets Mondays from 6 to 7:30 p.m. from April 1 to May 13

April 2 – Basic Life Support Initial Class
The American Heart Association Basic Life Support Providers Course will allow healthcare providers to earn their BLS certification. The class teaches students to recognize emergencies, provide CPR, use an automated electric defibrillator, and relieve choking.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. April 2.

April 4 – Basic Life Support Renewal

April 5 and 19 – Cancer in Your Life
A cancer support group for current and former adult cancer patients.
The group meets from 1 to 2 p.m. on the first and third Friday of each month in the Emanuel Cancer Center, 880 E. Tuolumne Ave., Turlock.

April 5, 12, 19, and 26 – Breastfeeding Support Group
Breastfeeding and Beyond, a weekly support group for new moms, offers breastfeeding tips, answers to common questions and concerns, and a chance to network with other new moms. All nursing mothers and babies are welcome.
The group meets from 1 to 2 p.m. every Tuesday in the Mother Baby waiting room, adjacent to the Mary Stuart Rogers Birthing Center at Emanuel Medical Center.
April 6 – Childbirth Education
Those interested may tour the Mary Stuart Rogers Family Birthing Center at 5 p.m. April 6.
The tour is free, but preregistration is required by calling (209) 664-2580. The tour meets in the front lobby.
April 15 – Women's Cancer Patient Beauty Group
Look Good, Feel Better offers beauty techniques to women who are undergoing cancer treatment. The tips help women address appearance-related effects of radiation and chemotherapy, which many women find hard to deal with.
The class will be held from 12 noon to 2 p.m. April 15 in the Emanuel Cancer Center Conference Room, 880 E. Tuolumne Ave., Turlock. The free class is sponsored by Emanuel Cancer Center, American Cancer Society, Personal Care Products Council Foundation, and Professional Beauty Association.
A free wig bank at Emanuel also stocks wigs, hats, scarves and lap blankets. The room is open weekdays, and not limited to Emanuel patients.

All Month – Jessica's House
Jessica's House offers support for grieving children and their families through bi-monthly, 90 minute sessions. Children talk with others suffering from grief, and participate in group art and play sessions.
Children may participate for as long as support is needed.
