In honor of National Cancer Survivors Day, Emanuel Medical Center will hold an all-day ice cream social for local cancer survivors on Thursday.

“More people than ever before are surviving the disease as a result of advances in prevention, early detection, treatment, and follow-up care,” said Michael Iltis, Executive Director of the Emanuel Cancer Center. “In America alone, there are nearly 14 million living with a history of cancer, and we want to celebrate that.”

While others are celebrating cancer survivors nationwide, Emanuel Cancer Center will hold their own celebration with a drop-in ice cream social for cancer survivors and their friends and family from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

“If you or a coworker has survived cancer – even for one day or one month – I invite you to bring a friend and enjoy free ice cream, a gift, and live Dixieland music,” Iltis said. “There’s no need to RSVP, just mark your calendar and come by at your convenience to join this celebration of life.”

Last year’s event drew scores of cancer survivors, all joining to celebrate together while enjoying live music and free ice cream from Cold Stone Creamery.

Emanuel Cancer Center is fully accredited by the American College of Surgeon’s Commission on Cancer in recognition of its quality of treatment and care – a commendation only awarded to about 20 percent of cancer programs in the nation.

The Emanuel Cancer Center is located at 880 E. Tuolumne Rd.
