Emanuel Medical Center Offers Support Groups, Classes in June

Emanuel Medical Center will offer the following classes and support groups during the month of June:

– Jessica’s House: Jessica’s House is a place for children who are experiencing grief due to a family member's death.
At Jessica’s House, children, teens and their families can come together to share their experiences in bi-monthly, hour-and-a-half sessions. Sessions begin with a talking circle for children and teens, and conclude with various activities that incorporate art and play. Families are not required to attend a set number of sessions, and are free to participate as long as they feel necessary.

– Childbirth Education
o One-Day Childbirth Class: From 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. on June 1, a one-day childbirth education class will be held. After the class, participants will be given an opportunity to visit the Mary Stuart Rogers Family Birthing Center.
The class will be held at the Emanuel Medical Center Conference Room C, and the tour meets in the front lobby.
The class and tour are both free, but preregistration is required. For more information, call (209) 664-2580.
o Stork Tour: A free one-hour tour of the Mary Stuart Rogers Birthing Center, will be held from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. June 1.

o Breastfeeding and Beyond: A breastfeeding support group for new moms. Meets weekly from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays in the Mother Baby waiting room adjacent to the Mary Stuart Rogers Birthing Center. Nursing moms and babies are welcome.
The group is free and walk-ins are welcomed. Baby weight checks are also available.
– Cancer Support Groups (All meet at the Emanuel Cancer Center, located at 880 E. Tuolumne Rd.)
o Cancer In Your Life: A free support group for current and former adult cancer patients. Meets from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday of every month.
o Expressive Writing Group: A free support group that uses writing and journaling about cancer as a means of healing. Open and free to all who are affected by cancer regardless of writing ability. Meets from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesdays.
o Look Good, Feel Better: A free program teaching beauty techniques to women who are actively undergoing cancer treatment to help combat the appearance-related side effects of radiation and chemotherapy. The class will be held from 12 noon to 2 p.m. June 17 in the Emanuel Cancer Center Conference Room.
o Monkey Business Children’s Support Group: Free support group for children ages 5 to 13 years old who have a family member with cancer.
o Free Wig Bank: For those currently going through treatment, the wig room at Emanuel Cancer Center stocks hats, scarves, and lap blankets. The room is open weekdays and not limited to patients of the Emanuel Cancer Center.
– Basic Life Support Renewal: American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers Renewal Course. Five options in June: June 6 8 a.m. to 12 noon or 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.; June 12 8 a.m. to 12 noon or 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.; June 13 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Participants must have a current BLS card.
Registration and preparation are required. The class is $55, plus a $15 materials fee. Call (209) 664-2580 to register.
