Felon arrested after riding around with pepper spray in vehicle with expired registration Friday night

On Friday, May 19th, 2023, at 9:31 pm, a Turlock Police officer near the intersection of Chestnut St and Grant Ave, Turlock, observed a man driving a vehicle with expired registration, so he made a traffic stop on him.

The officer made contact with and identified the vehicle’s driver as Sanchez Angelo, 36, of Turlock.

Due to Angelo’s vehicle registration being expired for over six months, the officer decided that he was going to tow it.

The officer removed Angelo from his vehicle and conducted an inventory search of it prior to it being towed. During the search, the officer located a pepper spray canister.

Angelo was determined to be a convicted felon, thus prohibiting him from possessing a tear gas weapon.

Angelo was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of possession a tear gas weapon by a convicted felon or person convicted of an assault crime and driving or leaving standing an unregistered vehicle.
