At about 11:48pm Sunday night, Officer Ayala observed a driver near N. Golden State Boulevard and E. Main Street violate the California Vehicle Code, so he made a traffic stop on her.

Ayala made contact with and identified the vehicle’s two occupants, including passenger Steven Sawyer, 33, of Turlock.

When Ayala had his dispatcher run the two, he discovered that Sawyer was on searchable probation for buying or receiving a stolen vehicle, grand theft, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon or person addicted to a narcotic.

Ayala removed the two from the vehicle so that he could conduct a probation search.

During the search, Ayala located a concealed fixed-blade knife on Sawyer’s person. Additionally, a loaded and unserialized handgun was located in the vehicle near where Sawyer was seated.

Sawyer was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of carrying a concealed firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, possession of an undetectable firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon or person addicted to a narcotic, possession of ammunition by a prohibited person, and carrying a concealed dirk or dagger.
