Turlock's Go Green Recycling caught fire Tuesday afternoon, but the Turlock Fire Department arrived before any serious damage could be done.
At approximately 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, the Turlock Fire Department responded to a reported commercial structure fire at 1600 McCormick St., home of Go Green Recycling, where smoke was coming from the roof.
Noori Abdul, 26 of Turlock, called 911 after discovering the fire. When fire units arrived at the scene smoke could be seen issuing from a swamp cooler on the rooftop. Firefighters accessed the roof and extinguished the fire in a short period of time.
The spread of the fire was blocked within the first couple of minutes of engine companies arriving, according to the Turlock Fire Department.
Battalion Chief Gary Lunsford acted as Officer in Charge of the incident. Due to the quick response time, there was no damage to the structure or any weakening of the roof. Total damage is estimated to be only $500. No one was injured or displaced due to the fire, according to the Turlock Fire Department.
Turlock Fire Department responded with a division chief, a battalion chief, and 3 engine companies for a total of 11 personnel. Other assisting agencies included the Turlock Police Department, American Medical Response, Turlock Irrigation District and Pacific Gas and Electric.
