Fire breaks out in detached storage unit Monday evening

On Monday, March 22nd, 2021, at approximately 7:00 pm, the Turlock Fire Department received a call of a working structure fire at N Golden State Blvd & W Tuolumne Rd. Battalion 4, Engine 31, Squad 32, Engine 33, Engine 34, Ceres Battalion 3, and Ceres Engine 15 were dispatched.

While Engine 34 was responding, they saw a large column of smoke from their station and upgraded it to a commercial working structure fire which added Ceres Engine 16 and Modesto Truck 1. Engine 34 got on scene about two minutes later and found a detached storage unit on fire at the Assyrian American Civic Club located at 2618 N Golden State Blvd. Captain 34 assumed command in the offensive strategy. They reported that they could handle with Turlock units and cancelled Ceres Engine 16 and Modesto Truck 1 while keeping Ceres Battalion 3 and Ceres Engine 15 for city coverage.

Other units began arriving on scene and brought the fire under control within 10 minutes and extinguished it shortly thereafter. Crews remained on scene for an extended period of time to investigate and check for extension. There was no extension.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and remains under investigation. Anyone with information regarding this fire is encouraged to contact Fire Marshal Mark Gomez at 209-669-2119 or by email at MGomez@turlock.ca.us.
