Fire burns interior of abandoned home previously seen occupied by squatters Saturday afternoon

On Saturday, April 16th, 2022, at 3:29 pm, the Turlock Fire Department, Modesto Fire Department, and American Medical Response were dispatched to a reported residential working structure fire in the 2200 block of Georgia Way, Turlock.

When crews arrived on scene, they found a single story single family dwelling emitting heavy smoke that was from a fire that had started inside of the residence and extended into the attic.

Crews worked in the offensive strategy and were able to quickly bring the fire under control in about fifteen minutes, extinguishing it shortly thereafter.

Firefighters remained on scene for an extended period of time after the fire was out, conducting overhaul, investigation, and other post fire activities.

The Stanislaus Regional Fire Investigations Unit responded to the scene to investigate the fire, American Medical Response responded to the scene to provide firefighter and patient care, the Turlock Irrigation District and Pacific Gas and Electric Company responded to the scene to secure utilities, the Turlock Police Department responded to the scene to provide traffic control, while the Turlock Rural Fire Protection District provided city coverage for the duration of the incident.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, however, it is known that the residence has been abandoned for a while now and that squatters have been seen inside of it in the past.
