Fish for Free at Don Pedro

Anglers rejoice: the Don Pedro Recreation Agency is waiving the vehicle day use charge for fisherman at Don Pedro Lake during the California Department of Fish and Wildlife’s statewide “Free Fishing Day,” Sept. 7.

The intent is to encourage people to participate in recreational fishing, even if its for the first time.

On Free Fishing Day state fishing licenses are not required and shoreline areas within the developed recreation facilities at Fleming Meadows, Blue Oaks and Moccasin Point Recreation Areas will be available at no charge. Anglers wishing to launch a boat will be subject only to the boat day use fee of $8.

Statewide, all other fishing regulations, such as bag and size limits, gear restrictions, report card requirements, fishing hours and stream closures remain in effect. Every angler must have an appropriate report card if they are fishing for abalone, steelhead or sturgeon anywhere in the state, or for salmon in the Smith and Klamath-Trinity river systems.

CDFW offers two Free Fishing Days each year – usually around the Fourth of July and Labor Day weekend – when it’s legal to fish without a sport fishing license.
