Flag Day: Paying Tribute to Old Glory

Driving around Turlock today, you may notice a few extra flags waving in the wind.

Every June 14, Americans celebrate Flag Day. The day commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States, which occurred on June 14, 1777.

Although Flag Day is not a federal holiday, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation in 1916 that officially established June 14 as Flag Day.

On this Flag Day, some local representatives paid tribute to our flag.

“Happy birthday to Old Glory, our everlasting symbol of freedom, and happy 239th birthday to the United States Army,” U.S. Representative Jeff Denham (R-Turlock) wrote on Facebook.
