Free Smog Emissions Tests at Stanislaus County Fairgrounds

The non-profit advocacy group Valley Clean Air Now will be at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds this Saturday, offering free smog emission tests for the first 525 drivers to attend.

By sponsoring a car cleanup outreach effort, Valley CAN is dedicated to eliminating mobile source pollutants that are generated by older out-of-tune cars in the San Joaquin Valley. Many older cars in the valley do not have current smog certificates.

Through various partnerships with local businesses, Valley CAN provides both smog testing and coupons to local certified smog shops for vehicles to be repaired.

The first 525 vehicles to attend the “Tune In and Tune Up” event will receive a free smog emissions test by a hand-held device. The device will detect if the vehicle is a high polluter within minutes. Should the tested vehicle be deemed a high polluter, Valley CAN will give the participant a $500 coupon to have their vehicle repaired.

No paperwork, reporting or government entities are involved or will be contacted should the vehicle fail the test, and the $500 can be used only at participating locations for diagnostic testing or smog repair work.

The Tune In and Tune Up event will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds, located at 900 N. Broadway in Turlock. Free food will be served at 9 a.m.

For more information about the event, email TITUEvent@valley-can.org or call 1 (800) 806-2004.
