On Monday, July 10th, 2023, at 3:05 pm, the Turlock Fire Department was dispatched to a reported vehicle fire near the intersection of W Christoffersen Pkwy and N Golden State Blvd, Turlock.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they found a Turlock Scavenger garbage truck well involved with a fire that had started in the cab and extended into the garbage compartment.

Firefighters were able to knock the fire down within 15 minutes, however, remained on scene for an extended period of time working with Turlock Scavenger to fully extinguish the fire, which included cutting a hole into the side of the truck to make the fire easier to access.

The Stanislaus Regional Fire Investigation Unit responded to the scene to investigate the fire, Turlock Municipal Services responded to catch runoff water from the truck, which was full and required over 30,000 gallons of water to fully extinguish the fire, while the Turlock Police Department responded to provide traffic control.

The garbage truck was eventually towed back to the Turlock Scavenger yard and crews from both Turlock Scavenger and Turlock Municipal Services remained on scene to clean up the mess that had been caused.

No injuries were reported.

The cause and origin of the fire remain unknown.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information that could assist in it is encouraged to call the Stanislaus Regional Fire Investigation Unit at 209-525-5537.
