Getaway driver of residential burglary suspect arrested after short pursuit Monday morning

On Monday, July 4th, 2022, at 10:40 am, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported residential burglary in progress in the 400 block of Hanover Ave, Turlock, after someone had seen a man exiting their neighbor’s residence through a window.

A responding officer spotted a vehicle leaving the area that had a man sitting in its front passenger seat which matched the description of the alleged suspect. He stopped it near the intersection of N Olive Ave and E Hawkeye Ave, at which point the passenger who matched the suspect description leg bailed from the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle, Zachary Alarcon, 34, of Sacramento, then began driving away from the officer. A pursuit was initiated, lasting less than a minute, when Alarcon decided to stop near the intersection of Rohrer Dr and Lori Ct.

A high risk stop was conducted and Alarcon was held at gunpoint by the officer until additional officers could arrive. Alarcon was arrested shortly thereafter without further incident.

A few minutes later, an assisting Stanislaus State police officer located a handgun near the intersection of North Ave and Rohrer Dr, suspected of being thrown out of the vehicle by Alarcon during the pursuit.

Additional officers checking the area for the suspect who had leg bailed kept being flagged down by witnesses reporting that he was making his way eastbound while shirtless, however, he was never located and his last known location was on Brenda Way.

The residence on Hanover Ave was checked and it was confirmed to have been burglarized, likely by the suspect who had leg bailed. There was no evidence located at the residence to link Alarcon to the actual burglary itself and the residence was unoccupied at the time of the burglary.

Alarcon was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of flight from a peace officer, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon or person addicted to a narcotic, and driving with a suspended driver’s license due to a DUI conviction, as well as an unrelated misdemeanor warrant.

The investigation remains on-going.
