It’s that delectable time of year again: the Girl Scouts of the USA have started taking preorders for those famous Girl Scoult Cookies.
Buying Girl Scout Cookies is much more than paying for a box of goodies. The girls learn about crucial skills by interacting with the customer and working with others, essentially running her own cookie business.
In fact, Girl Scouts are to learn five skills: goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics. Selling cookies are shown, by the Girl Scout Research Institute, to vastly improve performance in these areas.
Cookie earnings actually help pay for the various enriching enterprises that the Girl Scouts do all year long, like leadership activities and field trips. The girls will also fund important community projects with their earnings. In a sense, buying cookies from local Girl Scouts keeps the money in the community.
Like every year, the Girl Scouts Heart of Central California (GSHCC) will be selling its normal seven flavors with one exciting addition: the new Cranberry Citrus Crisps, whole grain cookies full of tangy cranberry and zesty citrus. The other flavors are Thin Mints, Caramel deLites, Peanut Butter Patties, Peanut Butter Sandwiches, Shortbread, Lemonades and Thanks-A-Lots. Select GSHCC troops will be selling Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Shortbread cookies, made with real chocolate chips and butter.
And due to popular demand, GSHCC is bringing back the “Buy 5” incentive from 2012. Those who buy five packs of cookies can be entered into a drawing to win an entire case – or 12 packs – of their favorite Girl Scout Cookies every month for a year. For those interested, the drawing will take place on May 3.
After the preorders, Girl Scouts will sell cookies outside local storefronts starting on Feb. 21 and lasting until Mar. 26. Boxes will sell for $4 each.
