At about 10:10pm Saturday night, Turlock Police responded to a disturbance at the Tuolumne Inn Group Home in the 1100 block of E. Tuolumne Road.

When officers arrived on scene, they learned that Steven Kendall, 18, of Turlock, was a resident of the group home who had recently become an adult.

Kendall had reportedly been involved in an altercation with another resident, this one still a child, when an employee stepped in between the two to try breaking up the fight. While in the middle, the employee was battered several times by Kendall and suffered serious injuries, which caused the investigating officer to believe that he needed stitches.

Eventually, with the help of another employee, Kendall was able to be detained until he ultimately fled the scene northbound on Colorado Avenue.

Officer Rush located Kendall a few minutes later in the 1100 block of E. Minnesota Avenue and contacted him. Kendall didn’t comply with Rush’s lawful orders and fought him.

With the assistance of other officers, Kendall was eventually able to be taken into custody.

Afterward, Kendall complained of difficulty breathing and requested medical assistance. He was checked out by firefighters and paramedics.

Kendall was then arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of battery inflicting serious bodily injury, obstructing or resisting a peace officer, and child abuse.
