The Stanislaus County Superior Court has set a hearing for George Nazar, 51, the landlord suspected of burning down an occupied trailer on his property on Verduga Road in July.

Nazar will have a pre-trial hearing on Feb. 25, before a preliminary exam on April 9; the preliminary exam is held to determine if there is enough evidence for the defendant to stand trial.

According to court records, Nazar entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity on three counts of attempted murder and one count arson of an inhabited structure.

On July 27, Nazar allegedly set fire to an occupied RV trailer and outbuilding on his property on the 400 block of North Verduga Road before barricading himself in his home.

The occupants of the RV were able to safely escape structure when it was set ablaze and none of the occupants were injured.

Authorities were told that Nazar had a collection of firearms and weapons, so they had to use extreme caution while attempting to get Nazar out of his home.

After a standoff lasting several hours, Stanislaus County Sheriff’s deputies were able to contact Nazar over the phone and get him to safely surrender without further incident.

Nazar was originally detained after the standoff, but was ultimately arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Jail. He has since been released on a bond.
