Home’s chimney catches fire Monday night

On Monday, March 8th, 2021, at approximately 7:40 pm, the Turlock Fire Department received a call of a working structure fire in the 600 block of E Olive Ave. The department responded with Battalion 4, Engine 31, Squad 32, Engine 33, and Engine 34. As part of a resource sharing agreement, the Ceres Fire Department also responded with Battalion 3 and Engine 15.

Battalion 4 and Engine 31 arrived on scene minutes later, originally not finding anything, however, upon getting closer, saw large amounts of smoke coming from the chimney. Battalion 4 assumed command and put crews in the offensive strategy. Crews were able to bring the fire under control within minutes and extinguish it shortly thereafter.

Turlock Irrigation District and Pacific Gas and Electric responded to the scene to secure utilities while Turlock Rural Fire Protection District provided coverage to the city while the incident was ongoing. The scene was cleared just after 8:35 pm. The residents were not displaced due to the fire being contained to the fireplace thanks to the quick response of the fire department.
