CovenantCare at Home has purchased Hospice of Emanuel from Emanuel Medical Center of Turlock, renaming it CovenantCare Hospice, a division of CovenantCare at Home.

The acquisition is an expansion of services CovenantCare at Home has provided in Turlock since 2008. CovenantCare is a national personal care and hospice agency based out of Skokie, Ill.

By purchasing the hospice agency from Emanuel Medical Center, CovenantCare at Home will add hospice care to its existing Medicare- and Medi-Cal-approved services. Those services include a range of help, from home health care with round-the-clock nursing to homemaker services such as light housekeeping. Millions of people require some sort of hospice service in their lifetime, whether that be for themselves or someone they know, so it’s important that those services are around to help those who need them.

“CovenantCare at Home is proud to continue the excellent hospice services program established by Emanuel Medical Center as a ministry of the Evangelical Covenant Church,” said CovenantCare at Home President Joseph Haughney. “We will continue the Emanuel tradition of providing peace, support and guidance for patients and their families with the simple goal of making patients feel comfortable, in their own homes, for as long as possible.”

CovenantCare at Home is an affiliate of Covenant Retirement Communities, which operates Covenant Village of Turlock amongst 15 other retirement communities nationwide.

“In other locations, we have developed a highly effective synergy between our home health/home care services and hospice,” said Haughney. “Here, we have the advantage of acquiring a well-respected organization.”

Like Emanuel Medical Center, Covenant Retirement Communities is a ministry of the Evangelical Covenant Church. As one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit retirement housing organizations, Covenant Retirement Communities will continue to operate CovenantCare Hospice as a not-for-profit community-supported service.

All current Hospice of Emanuel staff and volunteers will be retained.

Dr. James MacLaren will continue as medical director. Laura Springston, R.N., will continue to direct day-to-day operations and will now report to CovenantCare at Home Turlock agency administrator Ronda Malmberg, R.N., CWS. The hospice administrative office will remain at 1850 Colorado Ave., Turlock.
