Interesting Crime Reports in Turlock, Week of 08/31/09 – 9/04/09

Some interesting crimes that were dealt with by Turlock Police include a man shooting himself, someone passed out drunk in a drive thru, 12 & 13 year old boys swinging at a police officer, a stop where many attempts of false identification took place, a police chase ending in a thief crashing, a burglary leading to a group of people involved in Burglary/Parole Violation/Possession of Stolen Property/Vehicle Theft Recovery, and more.
 
A partial report of crimes that came through this week appears as listed by the Turlock Police Department. From Monday until Friday early morning, the TPD responded to just over 1,300 calls for service.
 
TPD states on the city website that due to privacy laws, not all of the arrests or significant incidents are included in their activity report log.
 
 
08/31/09
Vehicle Theft/Pursuit at 8:57am on S. Beech/Columbia
 
Tommy Kong (20yrs) was arrested for a recent vehicle theft he was wanted for. Officers were aware he was wanted for the vehicle theft. Officer Khamo spotted him driving what would turn out to be another stolen car out of Merced. A stop was attempted, but Kong ran from officers in the car. A pursuit ensued. Kong blew a tire while fleeing, but continued. Kong eventually crashed the car at Soderquist Park causing both airbags to deploy. He was dazed but still made an effort to get out and run. Kong was quickly apprehended. He was uninjured and was booked.

Weapons Case at 9:47am on the 300 block of N. Broadway
 
A 22yr old male called 9-1-1 reporting he had been in the backyard of a residence on Broadway when he was struck by a bullet, in the leg. He said he didn’t know exactly where the stray bullet had come from. He was driving himself to the hospital, while on the phone. Officers located him, and followed him to the hospital. The subject was evasive with questions. Long story short is that the subject shot himself in the leg while manipulating a handgun. The shooting was an accident. There were no serious injuries and the gun was recovered. The subject could face charges when released from the hospital.
 
Assault with a Deadly Weapon at 1:52pm on the 400 block of E. Linwood
 
A 13yr old male and a 12yr old male walked off campus at Valley Oak School. Officers were dealing with the issue when the juveniles were returned. While dealing with the kids, one pulled out a large piece of broken glass and swung at his guardian. An officer attempted to intervene and the juvenile swung at her, but missed. He was quickly taken into custody. While the officer was taking him into custody, the second juvenile began hitting his guardian. Both were booked into juvenile hall. One for assault with a deadly weapon and the other for battery.

False Information at 8:15 on Canal/Colorado
 
Miguel Zavalagranados, 26yrs, was stopped. He gave several false names before being positively identified by fingerprint match. He said he lied about his name because he thought he had a warrant. He was arrested for falsely identifying himself and for driving with a suspended drivers license.
 
Burglary/Parole Violation/Possession of Stolen Property/Vehicle Theft Recovery at 11:19am on the 2600 block of East Avenue
 
The Police Department had received a call of a residential burglary in the 200 Block of N. Quincy (the report coming in at 0955hrs). Officers spotted a vehicle matching the description of a suspect vehicle a short time later. Amanda Sams, 31yrs, was driving. John Allen, 44yrs, and Roberta Bolton, 37yrs, were passengers. Allen was on parole for drug violations and Bolton was on parole for burglary. During a parole search, evidence was located that pointed to the suspects as having been involved in the burglary. Additional property was found in the backseat that is believed to have been taken from a prior burglary. When Bolton got out of the car, she dropped a syringe on the ground. A parole search was then conducted at a residence in the 2600 block of East, the residence of one of the parolee passengers. Donna Davis, 35yrs, was inside the house and she had a weapons violation warrant and methamphetamine in her pocket. A stolen car was found in the backyard that was tied to Kelly. Sams was booked on burglary. Allen was booked on possession of stolen property and parole violation. Bolton was booked on possession of a syringe and parole violation. Davis was booked on the warrant and possession of methamphetamine. 
 
Burglary at 11:36pm at 2595 Geer Rd – SaveMart
 
Officers conducted a traffic stop on Sarkis Tamraz (23yrs) for a traffic violation. He had a front seat full of new liquor that he had just stolen from SaveMart. The investigation revealed he had stolen the liquor during three seperate trips in and out of SaveMart. The value was approximately $300 and the crime was captured on store video. Sarkis was arrested.
 
Fraud at 3:08pm at 1621 Lander Avenue
 
Kellee Okane, 23 years, called in a prescription for hydrocodone to the pharmacy, pretending to be a “Dr. Tanner.” Prior to releasing the narcotics to her, the pharmacist called Dr. Tanner to verify and the doctor had no idea who she was. Okane was already on probation for the same offense
 
Driving while Intoxicated at 3:17am at 100 N. Golden State Boulevard – Jack in the Box
 
We received a call of a subject passed out in the drive thru. The car was gone, but we were able to get the license plate and found Kalem Shamgochian, 29 years, passed out, car engine running, in front of his house at 743 Mitchell, with the car half in the drive, half in the road. He is arrested for driving while intoxicated.
